Following the lat. call at the Bay State.  Following all the wild eyes and anxious politics of the 1:10 Shuffle.  After all the rowdies caromed off each other and into the night in pursuit of their after-hours trajectories.  After the coast was clear.  Only then would a proud few quietly slouch towards the Woodmont Hotel.  Those who preferred to forego the "party" scene, but still weren't ready to call it a night. Adults who weren't actually "Grown-ups" but weren't permanently adolescent either.  For us there was the meetings of the Lonesome Willow Society. A cozy bungalow where we whiled away the evening hours until the sun rose once more.

Born from the wreckage of the Scud Mountain Boys, the Lonesome Willow Society picked up where their tattered legacy had left off. An extended musical family that would meet regularly to play songs late into the early morning.  The Woodmont Hotel was home to Bruce Tull, the twitchy and brilliant axe man for the gentle Sucd Mountain Boys. Bruce, a walking encyclopedia with a demonstrable dexterous talent to back up his ability to speak informatively about most anything. Bruce is the only man I know who can fall asleep while playing his pedal steel guitar.  A phenomenon that often failed to adjourn our meetings of the Lonesome Willow.  Just step around your snoring host on your way to the kitchen to top-off of your glass.

This song here is Henning's.  His band is School For The Dead.  There is nothing scary or mean about his school.  I recommend that you check them out if you haven't already.  Henning is a nice guy. He's familiar with the loud and obnoxious rock and roll music.  He doesn't live in a cave after all.  He just chooses to write and play a more friendly brand of music instead.  I think that was an excellent choice on his part. I sometimes wish I had made the same decision a few years earlier.

This particular video was shot in SD Mini-DV with no further editing outside the camera.  I just happened to have my camcorder with me that night and got lucky enough to catch this performance. One shot, natural light, in-camera microphone. Unrehearsed and impromptu.  Present in the room are Bruce Tull (Pedal Steel), Steve Desalniais (Bass), Kevin O'Roruke (additional guitar), Don Rooke, Lisa Beezo, Daniel Goepp, Kelly LaMay, myself and Reno the pooch were just listening in.
